Yes CHEF!

As you know I blog quite a lot about all things beauty & makeup but sometimes I want to share things that you will definitely want to go/see/do. Last night I attended a Cooking Master Class and here's how it went...

I was invited by Head Chef of The Riverside Hotel Killarney, Cyrille Durand to come and join 10 others for a fun night cooking at his kitchen. I called a friend of mine, Aine and we started the night off  at 6pm for some pre drinks at the bar in The Riverside.

Chef Cyrille arrived talking us through the evening and whisked (!) us in to the kitchen where we found our suitable attire  - an apron and a personalised chef hat.

Our first job of the night? Carving some pumpkins! Lots of fun but I think this was Chef's idea of getting us to practice using a knife! And practise was needed!

"Baltic Salad in Smoked Salmon Purse, Smoked Salmon Vinaigrette and Green Bean Salad" was our starter dish to try. Cyrille demonstrated everything from concassing tomatoes, slicing the salmon and showing us the easiest vinaigrette dressing to make.

I was very busy all night :)

We all had a chance to get stuck in and plate our very own yummy starter. Very proud of myself!

As soon as the starter was ready we were taken to the restaurant to eat what we had made. This part was also so enjoyable as we got to chat to everyone, making new friends and finishing it off with a lovely glass of wine.

Main course next and "On the menu tonight we have"....

"Pan Friend Mackerel Fillet, Sautéed Quinoa with a Warm Vinaigrette" and "Pheasant, Butternut Squash Puree, Winter Vegetable Stew and Smoked Whiskey Sauce". The class was divided into half and we each got to decide which we wanted to cook. I choose the Pheasant, a first for me and wow was it beautiful!

Apart from the horrible cutting of the bird and checking for bullets the rest was pretty easy. It's a dish I will be cooking myself for sure.

So more eating, chatting and drinking wine with our mains and then we were on to desserts. We made a gorgeous "Pumpkin and Apple Frozen Souffle" yum! The picture tells it all!

This night was such a different but amazing one - I loved it! I enjoy cooking and am not a whizz kid in the kitchen but I learned so much. So many tips along the way. Cyrille made it so relaxing while answering all the questions we had for him.

By the time we were finished eating and at this stage, barely able to move, we were invited back to the bar for another drink to finish off the evening. I would recommend this night to everyone. Get a group of friends together and it's a night you'll always remember. The Riverside Hotel will be running another Master Class before Christmas and at €50pp it is so reasonable and absolutely well worth it. So much effort went into the Master Class to make sure we all enjoyed it. Think this will make a great Christmas gift for a family member or one of your friends. Thanks Chef, I'll definitely be back!
